We knew it!

This one is for all the dog and cat owners out there. The long and commonly held stereotypes that exist between cat lovers versus dog lovers are actually true. Research completed by Facebook crack team of data wizards are providing some seriously interesting insight into the lives of these pet owners. The team of sociologists surveyed 160,000 profiles of people in the U.S who either had a feline or a pooch. They wanted to know which group had more friends, which group was more likely to be single and among other things what TV shows each group were more likely to watch. And the results are pretty cool... Dog people have more friends Firstly, the research conclusively shows that dog people have more friends. On average dog people have 26 more Facebook friends than cat people. Proving that maybe there is something to be said for the generalisations about pooch owners more outgoing demeanour.  On that note, cat owners do tend to have more long lasting, meaningful friendships, which sees them invited to more events than dog owners. Cat people tend to stick within their own clan. Could this have something to do with a general feline (sorry) of superiority? Cat people are twice as likely to make friends with other cat people. The research shows that cat people are 2.2 times more likely to befriend other cat owners whereas dog owners are only 1.8 times likely to keep it in the clan. Now for the big one. Wait for it…. Cat people are more likely to be single. Almost 30% of cat people are single, compared to just 24% of dog people. Now, before you go calling your single girl friend a crazy cat lady take heed- the results have nothing to do with gender. According to the researchers

“unlike the stereotype, being single and a cat lover isn't related to age or gender — younger cat-lovers, and male cat-lovers of all ages are just as likely as older female cat-lovers to be single”

Both groups like different books.  Cat lovers are especially fond of fantasy, sci-fi and anime. They seems to love the books Dracula and World War Z. Whereas dog lovers enjoy mushier films such as Eat Pray Love, The Notebook and Marely and Me.

Their TV choices differ too! Cat people seem to favor animated fantasy TV shows like Pokemon, Doctor Who and Adventure Time. While dog lovers are partial to dramas like Grey's Anatomy, Entourage and The Hills. They also found that both animal owners tend to resemble to characteristics of their pet. Meaning that cat people are more likely to complain about being tired, amused or annoyed. And dog people are more likely to express excitement and pride. Now, there you have it, seems Facebook is good for something other than stalking ex's, wishing you were somewhere else and feeling less superior about your life in every way imaginable. Cool.
