Dublin City Council has voted to allow increased building height across the city, redefining 'low-rise' allowing buildings up to 24 metres high in all areas between the Grand and Royal Canals.
The maximum height for residential buildings is now 24 metres or eight storeys, as opposed to the previous 7.
RTÉ report that councillors voted against a nine-storey proposal arguing it would harm the low rise nature of the city.
It's a 33% increase in height for residential buildings.
Low rise buildings outside the city will remain at four storeys, however within 500m of a DART or Luas stop it will increase to 8-storeys, an increase of two floors on the previous amount.
Mid-rise apartments of up to 16 residential stories will be allowed in areas including Thomas Street and St.Teresa's Gardens, as well as Clongriffin, Clonshaugh, Oscar Traynor Road, Ballymun, Ashtown and Cherry Orchard.
