"Your beloved, devoted and loyal pet is going to miss you."

As today sees the phased return to office life for a number of employees, the Dublin Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has reminded pet owners to be mindful of their dogs. Taking to Instagram, the animal welfare charity urged the public not to forget about their dogs as they return to in-person work. The charity wrote: "For the last 2 years we all turned to our pets for emotional support, companionship, someone to talk to, someone to help us through the long days and someone to walk with when family and friends couldn't." The statement continued: "Now that we are slowly returning to the work place you need to have a plan in place for your pet so that they are not left alone. Our pets are like family and they were there for us when we needed them, now it's our turn to be there for them." The DSPCA then outlined how dogs should not be left alone all day. https://www.instagram.com/p/CZHKvyyMkj3/ They wrote: "It's not ok to leave your dog alone all day when you go to work. It's not ok to leave them in the back garden thinking they will play all day - the garden is a lonely place and no fun without someone to play with. "Your beloved, devoted and loyal pet is going to miss you so please make sure you look at options like a dog walker or doggie daycare." The charity then reminded pet owners that they have a doggie daycare facility on the grounds of the DSPCA, which is located in Rathfarnham. While the past two years saw many people adopt dogs, there has also been an increase in people surrendering their new pets. Recently, the Dogs Trust reported that there was an 82% increase in dogs being surrendered over the past year.
