A doctor has issued a warning to parents about one very popular Christmas gift. It's one that appears on children's Christmas lists every year, but this doctor has advised against buying your child a trampoline.
A trampoline may be one of the most popular toys of all time, but emergency room doctor Dr. Meghan Martin is urging parents to think before purchasing one.
She explained on Instagram:
"We see kids getting hurt in all different ways on trampolines. Mostly, it’s going to be leg injuries. But we do see things like arm injuries, elbow injuries, even head injuries and back injuries, sometimes, when doing backflips, neck injuries.
"So there are a variety of injuries that kids can get on trampolines. And we do see them relatively commonly."
She stressed that trampolines are not safe, even when you have got a net around it.
The doctor said they're seeing multiple trampoline injuries a week, and urged parents not to believe the hype.
One person commented, "My friend who retired as a respiratory therapist always said no trampoline for her kids, she saw many life changing injuries."
"Worst injury I’ve ever seen was on a trampoline. Girl fell off, her heels caught under the material, her knees bent BACKWARDS over the bar. She was in a cast that went from chest down to both ankles after," said another.
She also warned against buying toys with button batteries, e-scooters, hoverboards, and water beads.
