The father of a South Dublin woman who went on a date with an Australian minister through a sugar baby website has said that his daughter can be "as naive as they come".

Amy Keating, 25, claimed that she went on a date with front bench minister Andrew Broad, who is married. The pair initially met through Seeking Arrangement and exchanged messages before meeting in Hong Kong, where she lives. She became uncomfortable on their date, she told Australian gossip magazine New Idea, and left. It's been alleged in the Australian media that she later texted Mr Broad to ask for her 'allowance' for meeting him. Reports say that she threatened to go public with the messages they had exchanged if he didn't pay her. It's understood that rather than pay her, he brought the issue to Australian police who said that they had no jurisdiction to investigate the alleged blackmail. Ms Keating's father told The Sunday Independent that he thought she was a bloody eejit but said he didn't believe she had blackmailed the politician. "She has made many a mistake. “She is as naive as they come, at times. But I am glad that she did what she did at the restaurant. “But do I think she covered herself in glory afterwards? Absolutely not. I thought she was a bloody eejit. An absolute idiot." The scandal, nicknamed 'Fifty Shades Of G’day', ended up costing Mr Broad his job. In mid-December he announced that he would not be contesting his seat in the next election.
