Cabinet looks set to widen the 2km restrictions to 5km following the bank holiday weekend.
The measures currently in place restricting the public from exercising outside of a two kilometre radius are expected to be extended to five kilometres, while people over the age of 70 will be allowed to leave their homes from Tuesday.
RTÉ News reports that the Cabinet is meeting now to agree on a long-term plan regarding the eventual ease of Covid-19 restrictions.
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar is due to address the public this evening. There is not expected to be any other major updates to the restrictions currently in place.

Cabinet were told earlier this week that Ireland's virus levels were not yet "low enough" to considerably ease the measures in place ahead of May 5.
There were "mixed views" concerning the possible extension of social distancing measures, but that some ministers agreed there should be "a little bit of give" on some of the restrictions.
“The Taoiseach and Minister Harris briefed Cabinet on the national response to Covid-19," read a statement issued by a Government spokesman on Monday.
“Cabinet heard that as of today, there are no indications that disease levels are low enough to enable any easing of restrictions on May 5th."
The government has been considering the advice of the National Public Health Emergency Team regarding a plan on how to safely re-open the economy.
