In her first speech as a member of Congress, Cori Bush called for Donald Trump to be removed as President, referring to him as the "white supremacist in chief". Bush, who was elected to Congress in November, said: "I rise in support of the Article of Impeachment against Donald J. Trump. If we fail to remove a white supremacist president, who incited a white supremacist insurrection, it’s communities like Missouri’s 1st District that suffer the most. "The 117th Congress must understand that we have a mandate to legislate in defence of black lives. The first step in that process is to root out white supremacy, starting with impeaching the white supremacist in chief." Trump has not yet made an official response to the impeachment, though he did release a statement at around the same time as the vote. It read: "In light of reports of more demonstrations, I urge that there must be NO violence, NO lawbreaking and NO vandalism of any kind. "That is not what I stand for and it is not what America stands for. I call on ALL Americans to help ease tensions and calm tempers."
