Fans and followers of Britney Spears were quick to call her out on a recent Instagram post, where the 40-year-old seemed to not only share a post that promotes fat shaming, but also, in her caption, call fellow pop star Christina Aquilera's backup dancers fat.
Earlier this week, Britney shared the following post:
In the caption, she wrote:
"I wish I could have chosen the nannies for my children … my dancers … I mean if I had Christina Aguilera’s dancers I would have looked extremely small… I mean why not talk about it ?? Don’t you think my confidence would have been a bit better if I could choose where I lived, ate, whom I called on the phone, dated and who was on stage with me !!! It’s hard sometimes now I see how much of my womanhood was stripped away at that time and every person sat back and didn’t say a thing !!! Anyways … I will be here talking bout things people NEVER talked about."
Unfollowed
In the aftermath of the post going up, Christina Aquilera herself, apparently,
clicked 'unfollow' on Britney's Instagram profile. And to be fair, we can't say we blame her.
And it wasn't just Aquilera who had a problem with Britney's post, which is clearly not just in bad taste, but also harmful to so many.
Other Instagram users were quick to comment, many urging Britney to do better, and maybe even take a break from social media completely.
"
Please delete this," one person wrote.
Another one said:
"No Britney, what we’re not going to do is slate other women whilst trying to boost our own self-confidence. This is not it."
And a third one simply commented:
"I'm so disappointed in you right now."
