A chilling video that shows the effects of a 12 billion tonne glacier melt has been making waves online. The footage shows a roaring river of glacial melt in the town of Kangerlussuaq, Greenland where the temperature has recently risen to 22 degrees. Danish officials said that the 12 billion tonnes of ice melted in one 24 hour period. Journalist Laurie Garrett shared the shocking footage to her Twitter account this week. We need to act - on a massive scale." This event marks the biggest glacial melt of the summer. 197 billion tonnes of ice melted last month overall - over 100 million more than expected.
