Property group Lexeme have stated that a marque Penneys store will be the main attraction in a new €70 million shopping centre that's being developed in Carlow.
The centre is set to open in 2018 and a number of other retailers, both international and national, are also in talks to open stores at Carlow Central shopping centre.
After construction work is completed, the Carlow Central scheme will include 200,000sq ft of retail space, 10,000sq ft of office accommodation and 640 car spaces. The new development is on a 6.5 acre site and it will incorporate Penneys current store along with further expansion into the nearby lands.
225 jobs are being created in its actual construction and the new retail outlets are expected to provide 800 jobs.
