“There are just too many strange turns."

A former detective chief has dubbed the recent discovery of Brian Laundrie's remains "quite strange." Laundrie's body was found near some personal items at the Carlton Reserve in Florida earlier this week. The 23-year-old was a person of interest in the Gabby Petito murder case. Laundrie and Petito had taken a road trip together over the summer. 22-year-old Petito was reported missing by her family after Brian, her fiancé, returned alone. Former NYPD chief of detectives Robert Boyce told local media yesterday that he found the circumstances in which Laundrie's remains were discovered "strange." Laundrie was found in an area of the Carlton Reserve after his parents Chris and Roberta joined the search on Wednesday. He had been missing for one month. “There are just too many strange turns that Chris and Roberta Laundrie haven’t been involved in it to not believe that something is amiss here," he told ABC. “The day the park reopens, they go into this specific area [...] They go to this exact spot and they find the backpack and they identify the backpack and the notebook... So it’s quite strange.” Laundrie family attorney Steven Bertolino, released a statement on Wednesday saying that Brian's parents had joined the search for the 23-year-old. "Chris and Roberta Laundrie went to the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park this morning to search for Brian," he said. "The FBI and NPPD were informed last night of Brian's parents' intentions and they met Chris and Roberta there this morning. After a brief search off a trail that Brian frequented some articles belonging to Brian were found. As of now law enforcement is conducting a more thorough investigation of that area." The FBI confirmed the remains to be that of Brian Laundrie last night.  Another former officer and K-9 handler has since told media that he found the discovery "highly suspicious." Kyle Heyen told told NewsNation’s Dan Abrams Live that the authorities and cadaver dogs should have been able to locate the remains given the extensive nature of the search.  “If the body had been there when they went by with cadaver dogs, and the body had been there for more than two or three minutes, the odour would have come through the water,” Heyen said. “They should have been able to locate that body. “It’s highly suspicious. If the body was there at that time, x weeks ago, and if it’s the same dog or the same quality of training, they should have found him. They would have detected Laundrie’s body."
