A Zika virus case has been confirmed in Denmark.
Global News Network RT reports that the Danish-born tourist contracted the virus in South and Central America while travelling.
The mosquito-born virus has been linked to severe birth defects and pregnant women have been advised not to travel to this region.
After returning home, the tourist presented at Denmark's Aarhus hospital with flu-like symptoms which was later confirmed as the Zika virus.
The World Health Organisation says Zika is a "virus spread to humans by Aedes mosquitoes, the same mosquitoes that spread dengue, chikungunya, yellow fever".
At present, there is no vaccine or treatment for the virus.
