The body of an Irish man who went missing after a wild fire in Greece has been found.

His remains were identified earlier today. "I'm very sorry to confirm that we do have the death of an Irish citizen and it has been confirmed as Brian O'Callaghan-Westropp," Orla O'Hanrahan, Irish Ambassador to Greece, said. "Our sympathies and thoughts go out to his family at this time." Brian O'Callaghan-Westropp had been honeymooning with his new wife Zoe Holohan in the coastal town of Mati, a popular holiday resort near to capital city Athens. The couple wed in Ireland last Thursday before departing for Greece at the weekend, reports RTÉ News. The newlyweds were trying to escape their hotel when they became separated and Mr O'Callaghan-Westropp went missing. They were believed to be fleeing in a vehicle. Ms Holohan remains in hospital in Greece with severe burns. She is expected to make a full recovery, Ambassador O'Hanrahan said. Her family have appealed for privacy. There are no reports of any other Irish people being caught up in the disaster. Intense heat first caused what have been described as Greece's worst wild fires in over a decade to break out in the Attica region on Monday. They have so far claimed the lives of at least 79 people around Athens, with many dozens more injured.
