Bernard Dunne's wife, Pamela, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer
Professional boxer Bernard Dunne has opened up about his wife's aggressive cancer diagnosis.
The sportsman's wife was diagnosed with cancer in 2021. Dunne found out the news on the day he returned home from the 2021 Olympics.
Speaking about the harrowing news, Dunne said being positive and having the right mindset has helped them get through this difficult chapter.
Dunne is set to take part in this year's Hurling for Cancer event to raise vital funds for cancer research.
"I don't think there's a family in the country, possibly in the world, that has not been impacted by the dreaded C-word. We’ve had it in my family with my wife. I found out the day I came home from the Olympic Games."
He continued, "It was aggressive, but thankfully, she is fabulous now and we enjoy and appreciate every day."
Dunne said embracing a positive mindset is so important.
"We need to face everything in life with positivity and the right mindset, and that is what this event is all about."
Hurling for Cancer was launched by horseracing's Davy Russell and Jim Bolger in 2011.
The team behind the charity event has helped raise nearly €1.7 million for cancer research since its launch. They're hoping to hit the €2 million at this year's event on August 18th.
