Moneygall better have the pints of Guinness pored.
The US Ambassador to Ireland, Kevin O’Malley, was speaking with Marian Finucane on RTE Radio this afternoon and he stated that outgoing President Barack Obama is planning a return trip to Ireland, and it is expected to be within 12 months.
As you will know, Obama visited Ireland in 2011 with his family as they famously stopped off at Moneygall in Co Offaly, his ancestral home. President Obama also delivered a speech at College Green in Dublin in front of a packed audience.
It appears that Obama is keen to return to these shores, with O’Malley stating that: “The last sentence that the President said to me on Wednesday of this week when we were saying goodbye was ‘please tell them I’m coming'. So I think that’s the President’s way of saying informally that you’ll probably see him again."
When asked for a specific time frame, O’Malley said: “My guess is in the coming year or so."
Maybe Obama has been practicing his skills with a hurl and fancies a game?
