Aodhán Ó Ríordáin's baby girl was born prematurely
Labour Party TD Aodhán Ó Ríordáin has announced the birth of his baby girl, Róisín, who was born at 26 weeks.
The dad announced the news on social media this week, confirming that his little girl was just 2 Ilbs 3 ozs when she was born.
The TD confirmed that his wife Nicola is doing well following the birth of their third child.
Alongside a photo of his daughter, Aodhán wrote: "Fáilte Romhat a Róisín a stór, ár gcuisle.
"At 26 weeks and 5 days, and 2 Ilbs 3 ozs, Róisín O’Reardon arrived safe and as well as we could have hoped. Mammy is doing great and has been a warrior for the last two months since her waters broke."
He continued, "We’ve had to come to terms with losing this baby through miscarriage twice, and we were sent to the delivery ward four times in the last two and a half weeks."
"Can’t thank all friends and family enough for the unbelievable support they given us through a difficult time. More than once, we were preparing ourselves to deliver very bad news to those around us.
"The staff in the Rotunda and the Coombe are incredible. They walk the line between joy and tragedy every day with such compassion and professionalism. We owe them so much," he added.
The parents are hopeful that baby Róisín will be able to go home from the hospital in March.
"Hopefully, Róisín gets to go home to the Northside in March. Between now and then, she’s in the best hands. And she’s blessed with her two big sisters and her mammy, who is the hero of this piece."
