AIB has scrapped plans to introduce a fee if you keep a minimum balance of €2,500 in each quarter.

AIB has suspended plans to introduce maintenance and transactions fees for customers. The proposed plans would have seen a quarterly fee introduced for anyone who kept a minimum of €2,500 in their AIB current account. The bank has said customers who had received letters from the bank can disregard the changes to fees and charges advised. This comes after AIB also delayed plans to introduce a 1 cent charge on every conctactless payment made. AIB CEO Colin Hunt said: "The COVID-19 pandemic is making the ordinary extraordinary. The nation, our businesses and our people are facing disruption, but together we’re all stepping up to keep things on track. "For AIB’s part, we are making sure our day to day banking services are running as smoothly as possible in branch, online, on the app and over the phone. But more than that, in response to the financial hardships that some of our customers are facing, we are setting up specific solutions to help them through the crisis. This news comes on the same day that Bank of Ireland announced that it would be temporarily closing 101 branches in Ireland as Covid-19 continues to affect the country.
