Tragic news this morning as Gardaí confirm that they are investigating the death of an 11-year-old Cork boy.
According to The Independent, the boy was found by a family member around 8pm last night and had sustained personal injuries.
Emergency services were called and multiple attempts were made to revive the schoolboy at the scene before he was taken to Cork University Hospital.
Despite efforts to stabilise his condition, he was pronounced dead in the early hours of this morning.
Gardaí have said that the incident is being treated as a personal tragedy.
“We are treating this as a very sad personal tragedy. It is absolutely terrible to think that something like this can happen to someone so young and it is particularly poignant when it happens Christmas week,” said a Garda spokesperson.
The precise details of the tragedy remain unclear but an inquest will be staged next year.
