France’s Olympic logo is getting rinsed online and oh, the memes – the sweet memes

This week, France announced their 2024 Olympic logo. It's supposed to represent French history, but instead, people think it looks like a stereotypical Parisian woman - which it does. The design includes an Olympic flame, a gold medal, and the lips of Mariane, representing liberty and remembering the French  Revolution of 1789. But despite all of this, people just see a standard gal from Paris. And yes, they have absolutely been tearing into it online. The ridicule has been most accurately portrayed by journalist Meg Clement, who took it upon herself to weave a suitable narrative for the French Olympic logo - one that represents both her cool demeanour and also her tousled bob. https://twitter.com/MegClement/status/1186368272037494785?s=20 "The French Olympic logo tumbles out of bed on a Parisian morning," she wrote. "She tousles her messy bob, dons breton stripes and ballet flats and whisks down the stairs from her fifth-floor apartment to grab a baguette before enigmatically texting two men who are pursuing her romantically." Clement then continued to add to the French Olympics logo's day, detailing her afternoon meals and her daytime activities. "The French Olympic logo has an expresso and a cigarette for lunch," she said. "She hops on a vintage bicycle and pedals past the Eiffel Tower on her way to a café where she will sit and read Baudelaire with her fluffy white dog at her feet. "The French Olympic logo will never tell your her impeccable skin-care secrets. The French Olympic logo would never be caught snacking in public." You get the idea. The jokes only continued to roll in, and although none of them harboured quite as much finesse as Clement's, they were still pretty good.

Peter Sarstedt once wrote a hit song about the French Olympic logo. To this day she denies it’s about her.
