Pieta are urging everyone to get familiar with the 'SIGNS of Suicide', to help family or friends support someone who might be at risk of suicide.
The five 'SIGNS of Suicide' to look out for are:
If you're worried about someone, don't be afraid to Ask the person directly if they're thinking about suicide. Talking to them openly about what's going on and listening to what they have to say is one of the best things you can do.
Once you've asked the question, gently Persuade the person to seek help or allow you to assist them in getting help.
Finally, you can Refer or guide them to Pieta, by offering to make the call or traveling with them to the appointment.
Pieta’s professional counsellors specialise in suicide prevention, with centres all over Ireland. Pieta also have a Freephone Crisis Helpline which is open 24/7, and all services are provided free of charge with no referral needed.
