There are a plethora of things we got away with in our youth that just wouldn’t fly today. Our vocabularies were significantly smaller and yet it has come to my attention that we’ve made certain phrases redundant. We made Latin of our favourite childhood proverbs. I vote we bring back the gushy. Here are some of the other phrases that spring to mind that we’ve forgotten.

  Gushy The art of unceremoniously fucking something into the air and allowing the catcher to keep it. What a justified and fair way to solve any argument. If this word and concept was more popularly ingrained in our culture and language we probably wouldn’t have wars. We certainly wouldn’t have the story in the Bible with King Solomon and splitting the baby. Tenpennybag This phrase is redundant because of the recession. Part of the reintroduction of this phrase would involve the reassessment of the current price of sweeties. Dibs The first person to say they want it gets to keep it. It was like a gushy for the less athletic. Ends This would absolutely 100% end food waste. We need to bring back the days when shouting “ENDS” to claim the last of someone’s food. There is nothing more soul destroying than watching someone dump the end of a chicken fillet roll when you’re tummy is rumbling. Sound Letting someone know that they’re an all round stellar person in one slayable was just the handiest thing. No strings attached, no frills, they’re just sound. Savage If something was extra sound it was savage. Ledge And if a person was extra sound they we’re a ledge. Meet Did you meet them? Did you get a meet? Will you meet me? One word, so many uses. WB Small, direct and life changing. Sometimes people needed the extra push of encouragement and reminder to respond to messages. WB asap For emergencies. Rat Someone who wasn’t very sound at all. A rat was the most cutting insult one could muster. Wazzup This had the potential to be a real word. It was on t-shirts and fake Von Dutch hats internationally. It was the global hello. Tattle-tale Someone who went spewing their mouth off revealing all your secrets to an authoritative figure (a parent or teacher). Grounded Imprisonment for your bad decisions. Whatever you did probably made you a ledge though.
