The next few weeks will bring an abundance of Christmas ads our way. While we've already had the incredible 2020 twist of the SuperValu ad, and we eagerly await whatever crushing niceties the John Lewis ad is bound to inflict upon us, why not indulge in something entirely wholesome in the meantime? Because the Woodie's Christmas advert is here - and it's sufficiently lovely. The ad tells the story of Mrs Higgins, a local woman who is known for being entirely generous, sound, and kind. She's also known for her perpetually creaky front gate that's falling off at the hinge - a gate that one of the local lads decides to take it upon himself to fix. Teenage Arron sorts out the gate while she's out of her house one day, a selfless act that reflects the true spirit of Christmas. “We have seen first-hand how the small acts of homemaking have become a part of everyone’s lives, more so now than ever," said Suzanne Quinn, Woodie's Marketing & Digital Director. "Mrs Higgins celebrates these acts of kindness happening across Ireland and the immense sense of community - Team Woodie’s feel privileged to be able to play a small part in helping make that happen.” Hilda Lyon, Head of Marketing at Woodie’s added: “We wanted to produce a Christmas Campaign that told a story that was relevant to our customers and their lives. "Christmas is a time for reflection, and we wanted to reflect on the good that has come from this past year, a year where we all did our best to look after one another.” 2020 may have been a weird one (and 2021 will likely continue to be so too), but it was also a year for generosity and kindness  - the true meaning of Christmas, really. The Irish-made ad was filmed over two days on the aptly named Ebenezer Terrace in Dublin. Woodie’s partnered with Irish based agencies Rothco and Mindshare and Irish production company Butter to shoot the ad.
