There were tears in our eyes after hearing about this couple's strong bond and the power of love to transcend time.
Nathan Byrd served in the military during World War One and was stationed in France. Thinking of his family all the time, he wrote 25 letters to his wife Lota at home in Phoenix, Arizona.
That is a lovely story in its own right but it might have ended there had Sheryl Caliguire not discovered the letters in a Southern Californian carport 30 years later.
"I come from a long line of military people in my family, so that's not something you can throw out," Caliguire told KATU News.
Sheryl tried to return the letters to the Byrd family but the road mentioned in the address no longer existed.
She kept them and eventually reached out to a TV station in Phoenix in the hope that they could help her find a relative of Lota and Nathan.
Eventually Caliguire was able to track down Lisa Byrd Adajian, a teacher in Oregon and the granddaughter of Nathan and Lota Byrd.
"To now know someone that was lost to you, that’s incredible," Adajian told ABC News.
Nathan and Lota were reunited after the war and were together for 11 happy years before the marriage split up, according to ABC news.
