They’re a mainstay of summer fun, but many will think twice about running for the fairground after this sad news.
A woman has fallen to her death from an American rollercoaster billed as the tallest steel-hybrid ride in the world.
The Texas Giant is one of the star attractions at the Six Flags Over Texas amusement park. On Friday night, witnesses who were waiting in line for the ride told local media outlets that the safety bar was released while the woman was on the rollercoaster, and ‘she just tumbled’.

Six Flags is the world’s largest amusement park corporation, and their Texas park is one of 18 North American facilities the company operates. They welcome over 23 million visitors a year.
Representatives for the company said that they would be temporarily closing the section of the park around the accident site.
The Texas Giant reaches 14 stories high. The ride first opened in 1990 as an all-wooden coaster but underwent renovation in 2010 to install steel-hybrid rails before reopening in 2011.
