I recently came across a quote that woke me up a lot

While it's incredibly simple, I was mind blown.

I had a habit of wasting my time and waiting for a 'better' opportunity to do all the things I'd wanted to.

When I read that quote, I knew something had to change.

What does romanticising mean?

Romanticising essentially means making things seem better than they actually are. Of course, it's not ideal to romanticise people or toxic situations, for obvious reasons.

But, making the mundane parts of life seem more exciting isn't a bad thing.

Brianna Schubert, a writer at the Good Trade, spoke about how she's started implementing the mindset.

"To me, romanticising my life is the act of paying attention, being present, and acknowledging and appreciating the small, simple — but when put all together, important — parts of my life," she wrote.

"It’s not an aesthetic, but rather a shift in perspective, a way of looking at life that makes it more enjoyable. It’s a form of mindfulness that helps us to look at life with gratitude."

She says it doesn't take a new haul of homeware and beauty products to improve your life, but rather using what you already have.

Whether it's having a candlelit dinner on Monday night or buying fresh flowers every week, there are so many options.

Make the most of your morning

Mornings are often my least favourite part of the day.

I snooze about ten alarms before I can get up, and often leave the house in a rush and end up feeling terrible.

However, I've found that romanticising the morning time can be so beneficial for my mood.

I like lighting a candle while I get ready, and taking extra time to make my coffee in my favourite mug.

Planning the night before helps a lot, especially when it comes to prepping breakfast and and planning my outfits.

If you commute, bring a book to read on the train or the bus.

I love curating a specific playlist that acts as my personal soundtrack for my walk to work.

Live in luxury

You don't have to break the bank to have an exciting day-to-day life.

Add crushed ice and a lime wedge to your water, drink your Diet Coke out of a fancy cocktail glass.

If you've been saving that expensive perfume for a 'special occasion', spritz some on a random day whether you're going somewhere special or not.

We waste so much time waiting for the perfect moment, but why should we deprive ourselves of nice things?

Our day-to-day life gets a lot better when we start choosing to see positivity and be happy.
