It’s the smallest gestures that sometimes have the greatest impact, and this is something that brought a smile to our faces and a sneaky tear to our eyes this morning.
Late last night Mark Pothier, a journalist with the Boston Globe, shared this note that arrived into his workplace yesterday, along with a large delivery of pizza.
The Boston Globe was the primary source of many reports following the horrific scenes in the city last week, as bombings took place at the finish line of the Boston’s famous marathon.
Staffers at the paper have been at the coalface of the action in the week that has followed, and there can be no doubt that it has to be one of the hardest weeks they have ever worked.
It seems as though spirits were lifted in the newsroom yesterday though, thanks to a kind gesture from the staff of the Chicago Tribune newsroom, who sent a pizza lunch for the team, along with the lovely note above. In case you can’t make out the wording from the picture, the note reads:
To the Boston Globe newsroom:
We can only imagine what an exhausting and heartbreaking week it’s been for you and your city. But do know your newsroom colleagues here in Chicago and across the country stand in awe of your tenacious courage. You make us all proud to be journalists.
We can’t buy you lost sleep, so at least let us pick up lunch.
Your friends at the Chicago Tribune.
