In our brand new series, our resident sports fanatic Mary takes on some of Ireland’s top female athletes to see if she has what it takes to compete with the best.
From chatting about their rigorous training programmes to taking us on to the pitch and right into the middle of the action, some of Ireland’s biggest names show Her.ie how it’s done.
Last week, we went head-to-head with Irish golf star Olivia Mehaffey while this week we faced off to Leinster squash star Niamh Maher.

Mary says:
Squash is definitely the sport that terrified me the most. The speed of the ball, my complete lack of hand to eye coordination and general lack of fitness were just a disaster waiting to happen.
Thankfully, Niamh is a very patient woman and despite the fact that I was pretty useless for the first half hour, she put me through my paces!
Out of all the sports I’ve tried out so far, squash has definitely been the toughest work out and is certainly one I’d go back to again for the fitness levels alone.
Thanks Niamh… and sorry for my lack of skill once more, you should be sainted!
