When it was announced that Kanye West was going to appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live, everyone expected a showdown but instead got a rather tame interview.
Jimmy started off by apologising to the rapper for offending him with his skit which involved two kids re-enacting his interview with Radio One’s Zane Lowe. (After it aired, Kanye had a Twitter rant and also called Jimmy up to express his anger about the whole thing.)
The television host then addressed the rumours that it was a publicity stunt, something which Kanye also denied: “Everyone out there in TV world, real world, whatever world you stay on needs to know I’ve never done a publicity stunt in my life... I don’t follow like rules of, like, normal celebrity... I don’t do publicity stunts, period.” (Anybody else concerned about this other world now?)
After that was all out of the way Jimmy told Kanye that most people think he’s a jerk and that he can give off a certain impression, to which the Stronger star replied: “I’m not running for office. I’m just here to make good music, make people feel good when they hear my music... For me I’m a creative genius and there’s no other way to word it.” (So modest.)
He continued: “I know you’re not supposed to say that about yourself and I say things the wrong way a lot of times but my intention is always positive. I want to bring more to the world, I want to help the world... Most people just bow down to TV or bow down to these cameras. I couldn’t care less about any of these cameras... All I care about is my family, protecting my girl, protecting my baby and protecting my ideas and my dreams. And that’s the reason why I went so crazy.”
