He’s one of Hollywood’s most famous and best-loved leading men, dating back to his star turn in 1967’s The Graduate, but now there is reason to admire Dustin Hoffman all the more.
This clip is part of an interview that originally aired in 2012, but has gone viral in recent days and amassed over 2 million views.
In it, Hoffman becomes visibly upset as he talks about the impossible standards of female beauty.
Back in 1982, Hoffman played the lead role in Tootsie, a comedy about an out-of-work actor who decides to impersonate a female in order to find employment.
In the video, Hoffman admits that he asked make-up artists to transform him into a beautiful woman, and he was upset at the resut, saying; "I was shocked that I wasn't more attractive."
I said 'Now you have me looking like a woman, now make me beautiful.' I thought I should be beautiful if I was going to be a woman, I would want to be as beautiful as possible."
That's when the actor told his wife he felt he had to make the film, because he had been “brainwashed”.
Watch it, and you’ll understand why Hoffman says the movie was “never a comedy” for him.
