He is a former marine and played a sadistic Sergeant in one iconic war film, but one Hollywood actor is today being branded a real-life cold-blooded killer.
R. Lee Ermey, who voiced Gunny the toy soldier in the
Toy Story films, is the latest well-known face to pose proudly with lions he slaughtered.
According to
The Independent, the actor posted the disturbing images on his personal Facebook page, and is listed on the “celebrity endorsements” page of South African tour operator Frikkie Du Toit Safaris, which also reads;
“We are dedicated to finding our clients the best quality trophy’s.
“We hunt several concessions dependent on the game desired.
“We offer you tranquillity and a unique opportunity for hunting all year round.” [SIC]
Speaking to the newspaper the company founder said that the lions shot by Ermey were wild, and that there were “certain rules everyone abides by”, adding that his company "only shoots old animals and those who can no longer reproduce".
Ermey is perhaps best known for his role in 1987 war movie
Full Metal Jacket.
A report by Lion Aid estimated that there are only 15,000 lions left in the world. Would-be “hunters” can pay over €10,000 for a killing safari.
Back in November, American TV presenter Melissa Bachman was subject to a huge backlash when she shared similar images.

A spokesman for animal rights group PETA said: “It takes no courage to stalk and kill animals. Lions are treated as living targets for the arrogant and ignorant with more money that morals.
“Most people are appalled at someone like this man gunning down animals for a thrill, a trophy or a souvenir photograph.
