Baby names are always coming in and out of style, but some surprising monikers are falling in popularity in recent years.
Names we all would've adored back in the 1990s and 2000s are now proving to be super unpopular with new parents.
We thought they'd remain timeless classics, but it looks like some of these names are set to go extinct in Ireland, including one of the biggest names of the 1990s.
The name Rachel has seen a massive drop in popularity in recent years.
Times have changed, and the name Rachel is now dwindling in popularity.
According to the CSO, only 24 baby girls were recorded with the name Rachel in 2024.
In 2024, Rachel was ranked 189th of all baby girls recorded in Ireland.
However, back in the 1990s, Rachel was one of the most common names in Ireland.
The CSO confirmed that the name was ranked 10th of all baby girls recorded in Ireland in 1994.
"In 1994, Rachel was ranked 10th of all baby girls recorded in Ireland. In total, 357 baby girls were recorded with the name Rachel in this year."
The name Rachel may have lost its popularity, but we could see the 1990s classic making a comeback.
The most popular baby girl names in Ireland in 2024 were Sophie, Éabha, Grace, Emily, and Fiadh.
What popular 1990s name would you love to see make a comeback?
