According to Buzzfeed, the creator of the blanket, Steve Walker, said that the idea came to him after the shooting tragedy in Sandy Hook and the tornadoes in Oklahoma.
The company also estimates that the bullet-proof blanket can protect the child from up to 90% of weapons that have been used in school shootings in the past.
The blanket can be fastened around the child with straps and is a lightweight pad. It can also protect against nails, metal and other sharp objects.
Although they cost a whopping $1,000, the company is eager to point out that this is much cheaper than a bomb or tornado shelter.
Buzzfeed reports that the company is aiming to have the blanket included as part of lockdown protocol.
In the US this year alone there have been 13 school shootings reported.
