A team of experts have begun examining Loop Head Lighthouse in Kilbaha, Co. Clare for signs of any ghostly activity. The paranormal investigators are hoping to find signs of the afterlife in the lighthouse which was built in the 19^th century.

The team, known as GhostEire, are currently carrying out investigations for any spooky activity within the walls and grounds of the lighthouse which stands on the peninsula, according to the Irish Sun. The team have previously investigated incidents in Tarbert Bridewell Court and jail in Listowel and Dunguaire Castle in Kinvara, Co. Galway.

The Munster-based team are investigating the buildings where, strangely enough, the grandfather of Taoiseach Enda Kenny used to work as lightkeeper. Anthony Kerrigan of the group commented: “Loop Head Lighthouse still holds a lot of residual energy in its walls and rugged cliff tops. We evaluate every nook and cranny. We always do base testing before an investigation, checking sound, lighting, electromagnetic field and temperatures, which might contribute to the environmental reason for a ‘haunting’.”

The team are using high-tech equipment to examine the buildings and its surroundings, including infra-red and full spectrum cameras.

The first cottage, located at the most Westerly point on the Loop Head peninsula, was built in 1670 with the tower built in 1854. The lighthouse was originally operated by a lightkeeper but eventually became automatic. Locals in the area often call Kilbaha the “last stop before America” and the peninsula is celebrated as a unique tourist place.
