This is what the Internet looked like twenty years ago, and no offence to CERN, but it was a pretty dull looking place.
Posted by the European Organization for Nuclear Research around 1993, the landmark website has been republished for the web’s 20th anniversary, and it all looks pretty far removed from the pages we’re used to seeing online these days.
Instead, it’s much closer to what the inventors of the Internet intended their creation to be used for - universal access to important documents. Then again, under ‘How can I help?’ point one is ‘Put up some data’. Perhaps that’s where the cats and porn came in, through the valiant efforts of well-meaning early surfers…
