Every so often you hear a horror story about someone who has accidentally kissed their cousin or found out the guy they were dating was actually their brother. Okay, so that last one is more like something out of a TV soap but you get the message.
Well, that is all going to be a thing of the past as a new app called Islendingabók has been developed in Iceland which allows you to check if your date is from the same family tree as you.

The app helps to prevent romantic encounters with family members.
All the users have to do is bump their phones together. According to News of Iceland the software contains the information of over 700,000 people which then allows those signed up to determine whether they are related. The tagline aptly reads: “bump the app before you bump in bed.”
However not everyone was entirely happy with the timing of it as one user wrote on the website: “If I would have had this app last year I probably wouldn’t have gone home with my cousin.”
The app, which is useful in Iceland because of their small population, is not yet available elsewhere but we sense it will most likely only be a matter of time…
