A couple from Inverness proved this week that you don’t have to spend thousands to have a good wedding.
Georgina Porteous and Sid Innes might not have been able to get out of paying £70 for their marriage licence but they did keep costs of the wedding itself to just £1. Yes £1.
The couple decided to have their wedding on a budget.
They not only asked for people to donate what they could online but called on family members to help them. Georgina’s aunt took care of the three-tier wedding cake while her dad provided the music.
After the marriage service, which the minister did for free, the reception, to which guests brought their own food, was held at the couple’s home.
The £1 went towards Georgina’s second-hand dress which she is now planning to turn into a shorter dress for casual use.
They had a great time with their family and friends.
Speaking about the shoestring wedding, Sid explained: “We asked people how much it costs but it just seemed a lot of money for a one-off sort of thing so we decided to do something different but you almost become obsessed with it.”
The couple are now planning to put the money they saved towards a new house or their honeymoon which could see them return to Berlin where they got engaged.
