Seventeen-year-old Charley Porter was taken to hospital after a false widow spider bit her several times. The teenager was changing into her pyjamas, ready to go to bed when the spider bit her on the shoulder. Speaking to the Worthing Herald, Charlie from Worthing, Sussex, said: "It was literally my worst nightmare because I hate spiders. "It took my parents at least 20 minutes to calm me down, there was a lot of screaming. “My arm is still hot and hurting now. My arm can sometimes go numb like when you have been injected with a needle. My arm went completely red and my lips swelled up.” Archaeology student Charley was taken to Worthing hospital by ambulance and a heart monitor established that she had an irregular heartbeat. Doctors administered antibiotics and antihistamines and Charley was allowed home later that night. A spider expert has advised the Porter family to have their fumigated as there may be a nest in Charley's room. Charley's mother also spoke about the frightening incident saying: "The bites were really horrendous and blistery. "It was like something out of a horror film. It was absolutely ghastly".
