A woman from Galway almost threw away a quarter of a million Euros when she binned her winning lottery ticket.
The single mum could have lost out on €258,528 but thankfully, after a lot of rummaging, she found her EuroMillions ticket.
Yesterday she told Lotto bosses that she fished the ticket, covered in onions and garlic, out of the bin the night before it was due to be dumped.
“I never play EuroMillions so I don’t know what came over me that day – I just asked for a ticket,” the woman, who does not want to be named, told The Irish Mirror.
“I forgot all about it until a few weeks later when I saw a picture of the shop in the newspaper and the story that a winning EuroMillions ticket was sold there.
“But I couldn’t remember where I put my ticket. I searched the car – no ticket. I searched the house, top to bottom – no ticket. I looked through the recycling bin – no ticket. Then I searched the normal bin. It was due to be emptied the next day, so it was very full.
“I went all though the bin to the very bottom, and there it was – covered in onions, olive oil and garlic but still in one piece.”
After finding ticket, bought in Donegal, the (extra) lucky lady went to the National Lottery offices and collected her cheque.

She found the ticket at the bottom of the bin.
