Do you agree?
When it comes to relationships, every one is different. Couples find a way to make it work and every one has different routines and methods of keeping a relationship healthy.
A lot of the time, people who are in relationships can preach and spout off advice but it's really the long-term lovers we should be taking advice from.
Mark Manson, a writer for
Quartz, recently got married and wanted to ensure he would be the perfect partner.
He put out an online request to gather tips and advice from anyone who has been happily married for over 10 years.
''Almost 1,500 people replied, many of whom sent in responses measured in pages, not paragraphs.'' He explained.
''It took almost two weeks to comb through them all, but I did. And what I found stunned me… They were incredibly repetitive.''
Among the answers were the somewhat obvious things like, have respect, be realistic and talk openly. But one that isn't as obvious, specifically when it's phrased like this is 'get good at fighting'.
One person who has been married for over 10 years submitted this piece of advice that claimed that it's crucial.
''The relationship is a living, breathing thing. Much like the body and muscles, it cannot get stronger without stress and challenge. You have to fight. You have to hash things out. Obstacles make the marriage.''
Obviously, fighting over minor things is never a good thing, but sometimes issues are real and important to discuss.
Some people may see fighting as a bad sign in a relationship but being able to discuss problems without treading on eggshells until the issue gets sorted can help a relationship stay healthy.
