Stranded In Sydney – Lost Passports of Irish Adventurers Returned

One too many heavy nights out for a few of our friends in Sydney, perhaps? 

We’ve all got those mates we’re tempted to block from our Facebook feeds. Those who gave up on the daily grind here and opted not to stick around until we built the ark – and instead headed for the golden sands of Sydney. 

Most young people we know are planning a year, maybe two, on that side of the world, and many are planning a trip home for Christmas. They might have a little trouble getting on the plane though, judging by a picture we spotted online this morning.

It looks as though some of our Sydney-based buddies may have been partying a little too hard, and should keep a closer eye on the papers that will get them back into the country…

Earlier this morning the @DFATravel account, (Travel advice from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade), tweeted a picture with the caption ‘How many Irish passports are lost in Sydney a year? This pic gives u an idea & these are only the few we get back!’ The picture shows stacks of Irish passports found and returned to the Department, while their previous holders have most likely turned the house upside-down in the search for their missing documents since.

We don’t envy our friends ‘out foreign’ the hassle involved in replacing their passports, and indeed the cost too – maybe time to pare back the partying guys? Otherwise it could be an enforced Christmas on the beach for many of our pals.

To be fair though, that doesn’t really sound all that bad…
