Ireland is set to experience a partial solar eclipse this morning but experts are warning people not to look directly at the sun at any time during the two-hour event.
According to Met Éireann, viewing of the eclipse will be hard for many due to the cloud coverage, and experts have stated that if you are able to spot it, do not look directly at it with the naked eye or through telescopes, binoculars or other makeshift filters.
It has been stated that doing so may lead to eye damage.
According to reports, the safest way to view the event is by using special eclipse glasses or a pinhole projector which can be made by putting a small hole in a piece of card.
You should then project the sun onto another piece of paper or a wall.
The last solar eclipse was 16 years ago with the next partial eclipse due in 2026 and the next full eclipse scheduled for 2090.
The partial eclipse is due to begin from approximately 8.30am this morning and a shadow will be created by the moon as it passes between the earth and the sun.
It is expected that by about 9.30am more than 90% of the sun’s surface will be blocked out by the moon. It may feel cooler outside and wildlife such as birds are said to have a strong reaction to an event of this kind.
