There are so many foods out there that deserve the credit for being versatile and go beyond the mistaken boundaries of frying, baking and boiling.
The humble egg is renowned for being used for all sorts of delectable snacks and dishes, but have you ever thought about the other ways you can utilise its goodness?
Today World Egg Day, and so we're looking at some alternative ways to cook and eat popular foods from across the globe. From unusual dishes to simple classics, here are seven ways with eggs:
1. Tea Eggs
A popular snack in Asia, the concept of soaking your eggs in tea may sound a bit bizarre but it’s actually a tasty alternative to your average boiled egg. All you have to do is immerse some hard-boiled eggs in a marinade of black tea and soy sauce and voilà, you've got a great snack.
2. Eggs Benedict
Soft, gooey and delicious, Eggs Benedict with hollandaise sauce is simply divine if you’re looking for something with a variety of textures and flavours. We even wrote of our love of these eggs on our
Food for Thought series.
3. Classically Fried
Full-Irish breakfast with the classic fried egg - need we say more?
4. Omelette
Yet another example of the versatility of the egg, an soft omelette can be filled with pretty much anything - especially mountains of cheese which we adore.
5. Devilled Eggs
These hard-boiled eggs are usually served cold, mixed with other ingredients such as mayonnaise, paprika, cumin and mustard. They're particularly amazing as party nibbles!
6. Baked Eggs
With baked eggs you can add cheese, porchetta and other ingredients and all you pretty much have to do is sit them all in a ramekin and pop them into an oven. Easy!
7. Frittata
What's great about the frittata is that you can eat it at pretty much any temperature - hot, cold, warm, anything goes with this amazing dish. We'd even go as far as to say that we prefer it over a quiche!
