A group of Roses and Escorts from previous years have completed a 300 kilometre walk from Dublin to Tralee in memory of 2010’s Texas Rose Adrienne Hussey.
According to the ‘300k For A’ Facebook page the walkers started their journey at Beaumont hospital (where the 26-year-old died last year) on August 9th and landed at the Dome in Tralee yesterday afternoon ahead of this year’s festival.
Niamh Sherlock, 2010’s Dublin Rose, told 98FM: “We were deciding what to do to keep Adrienne’s name and her memory alive – 26-years-old is far too young for someone to pass away – so we needed to make sure we kept her alive with us.
“We are co-funding a scholarship at the University of Limerick. It’s called the Adrienne Hussey scholarship and it would be providing a PhD student to research full-time into cranial aneurysms which is what she passed away from.
She added: “So all of the funds raised go towards keeping that funding going for as many years as possible. This walk alone, we’ve just over €9,000 raised so what we’re hoping is that this will actually pay for one full year.”
