Whoever did this translation job, just made a complete balls-up. Welsh might not be the most straight-forward language in the world, but whoever took on this job just made a complete balls of it. The Tesco Express in Aberystwyth had an awkward moment when a translation job on the cash machine promised “free erections” for all. Above the store ATM, the sign read "codiad am ddim", which translates colloquially (and confusingly) to "free erections". What we imagine they were looking for was "codi arian heb dâl", which translates to "lift money without fee". In Welsh "codi" means lift while "codiad" means erection, which happened to lead to the best mix-up ever. Speaking to Newsbeat, local councillor Ceredig Davies said: “I thought it was funny but I think they should have gone the extra mile and checked it out with a Welsh speaker. "I mean as Welsh speakers we are used to blunders, but this one really takes the biscuit.” A spokesperson for Tesco revealed the sign has since been taken down, adding: "Thanks to everyone who pointed out the mistake".
