September is a very common month for babies to be born and if you work back from that, it means a lot of those babies are conceived over the festive period. If you were to hazard a guess as to why this is the case you may put it down to a number of things. Firstly, it's always cold so you end up going to bed earlier than normal just to get some warmth. What follows on after that is just a bonus. You also have a lot more time on your hands because you're more than likely off work for a few days. You might go away somewhere special or abroad which allows for more sex. Or you're just in a good mood and want to have more sex because it's Christmas. In these instances, where you're having more sex than normal, there's always a chance of becoming pregnant, even if you're not necessarily trying. And it's all down to one thing - your contraception or misuse of it. The Telegraph spoke to Clare Murphy, of the British Parental Advisory Service, who said that Christmas can interfere with the proper use of contraception and lead to women getting pregnant. She said, "Many women we speak to say they find it particularly difficult to access the contraception they need around the festive period as GPs and pharmacies may be closed, or pills get forgotten at home when they go away for Christmas." There can also be a missed pill after a few too many drinks as well.
