Now that’s what we call dazzling. Australia has officially set a new world record, and it’s all thanks to an absolutely amazing Christmas tree that was unveiled last night. Hundreds gathered in the capital of Canberra on Friday night to witness the record of the most lights ever on an artificial Christmas tree be made. The news was confirmed by a rep from the Guinness World Records, who revealed that a record that had been held for five years by Universal Studios Japan in Osaka had finally been broken. So how did they do it? Well the 22-metre tree had a whopping total of 518,838 sparkling lights, to absolutely hammer the previous attempt in Japan which had 374,280 lights. According to local media, Christmas fan David Richards brought together a host of local volunteers and engineers, carpenters and steel fixers to put together the enormous tree – which was topped off nicely with a 1.5-metre star that had 12,000 twinkling lights.
