Surely someone has to get the (potato) sack for this? 

It looks to be a crisp afternoon in Limerick, as the city by the Shannon is playing host to a bus full of potatoes, while cars are being crushed in the streets.

Not to worry though, the Treaty city hasn't gone entirely mad - they're simply preparing for the arrival of a very special Granny.

The giant footprints on the pavements, the smashed vehicles and the makings of one very big dinner all come ahead of this weekend's Royal De Luxe visit to 2014's City of Culture.

A seven-and-a-half metre tall granny will wake up in Sarsfield Army Barracks this Friday morning before spending the weekend touring the Munster city, with up to 200,000 people expected to attend.

Granny's journey will take in 19km around the city, in an event that is billed as the biggest to be staged in Ireland this year.

Royal de Luxe are a world-famous French street theatre company, bringing Granny to Limerick in a €400,000 spectacle that is set to be one of the highlights of Limerick's City of Culture reign.
