Everyone loves a good party, but the best of the best really come down to the finer details! We’re urging Her.ie readers to throw a party that’s both great fun and benefits others, by fundraising for the Irish Cancer Society. Put the fun back in to fundraising! To help you out on the inspiration front, we’ve got some hints and tips on how to be the perfect party hostess.

1. It’s Not About The Price Tag…
Love her or hate her, Jesse J had a point with this one. Don’t let a small budget get in the way of a big shindig. While a few years ago it might have been all about showing the wealth, nowadays it’s the height of chic to show your thrifty side. Home made is hot, so don’t let the pressure of a big spend turn you off having friends over for a good time.
2. Guest List = Best List
For a gathering like the ones we’re talking about, make sure the guest list is manageable, firstly, and even more importantly that it’s full of friends. Don’t invite people into your home if you feel you’re going to be under constant pressure to impress them. Invite people you’re happy to be around and the atmosphere will take care of itself.
3. It’s all a Game
Games nights are a whole pile of fun, and wonderful ice-breakers if you have different circles of friends meeting for the first time. You’re not going to sit down for a three hour Monopoly marathon the minute they come in the door, but have some fun and easy games on standby for when the banter is in full flow.
4. Don’t be a Hero
If your friends offer help, take it. You don't have to clean, decorate, play DJ and sommelier and cook a five-course meal on your own. If you try to be all things to all men, you’ll only succeed in making the night a complete stress headache for you. Let the pal who makes that amazing cheesecake bring dessert, allow guests to bring a bottle… they’re appreciating your hard work, so let them show it.
5. The Internet is Your Friend
If you’re planning a party and you’re not yet addicted to Pinterest, you soon will be. A haven for crafty sorts, you’ll be wondering why you didn’t start using jam jars as tealight holders years ago! There is a wealth of simple, sweet ideas out there that can help take your party to the next level.
