October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Irish Cancer Society is encouraging everyone to take part in their Paint it Pink campaign. Host or attend a pink event, wear something pink, share your pink pictures on social media using the hashtag #PINKPICS and text the word Pink to 50300 to donate €4 to the Irish Cancer Society. Over the course of the month, there are plenty of fun things happening to raise awareness for breast cancer. One such event is the Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Weekend taking place in the Celtic Ross Hotel, Roscarberry from 10th-12th June. Paint it Pink this October We spoke to Emma Spillane, office manager at the hotel, who explained that is the seventh year of this event and it has enjoyed tremendous success thus far. Each year, women from all over Ireland come together for a weekend of pampering, relaxation and fun. Best of all, the event provides much needed funds for a very important charity. This year, Clodagh McKenna will give a cooking demonstration, magician Liam Sheehan promises to perform impressive tricks, and there will be plenty of opportunities to get pampered thanks to a gelish nail bar, beauty treatments, and make-up and hair demonstrations. During the weekend, there will be the chance to take part in a wide range of activities. There really is something for everyone with Pilates, Callanetics, aqua aerobics, and health and nutrition seminars to choose from. If you feel like getting out and about, we have it on good authority that there are plenty of attractions nearby including the Lagoon Activity Centre and Smugglers Cove Adventure Centre. The opportunity to avail of a guided tour of Roscarberry sounds good if you want something a little less strenuous. On the Saturday night, there will be a pink champagne banquet and Best Dressed Ladies competition. We also have to mention the five course feast prepared by head chef Graeme Campbell and after dinner, guests can dance the night away to five piece band, Shine the Band. As a thank you for supporting the fundraiser, each person will also receive a goodie bag. Speaking about the event, Eileen Kearney, a Community Fundraiser with the Irish Cancer Society, said: “Once again we are delighted to have the continued support of the team at the Celtic Ross Hotel. "The money raised from the weekend will go directly to the Irish Cancer Society’s Action Breast Cancer Programme, Ireland’s leading provider of breast cancer information and support. "Each year we reach over 25,000 women who are concerned about breast cancer and breast health. "We strive to ensure that everyone affected by breast cancer receives the highest standards of treatment, support and care, and to improve the quality of life of people living with breast cancer". The Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Weekend in aid of Action Breast Cancer is €189 per person sharing including two nights B&B, Champagne Banquet on the Saturday night, a Mini Facial or Mini Massage and all the activities during the weekend. If you can't make the full weekend, the cooking demonstrattion with Clodagh McKenna costs €25 and it will take place on Saturday 11th October at 2pm. The champagne banquet costs €45 and it is scheduled for Saturday 11th October at 7pm.
