Something I wish I was told before my big day.

Before I got married I got lots of advice from previous brides. Some I asked for, others I gleaned through casual conversations. But there was one thing that no one told me and it's a pretty crucial piece of advice for anyone planning a wedding. Don't sweat the small stuff. This alone might sound like pretty normal and common advice, but it comes with a backstory. Unfortunately, with weddings, things can go wrong. Three and a half weeks before my wedding our celebrant pulled out. We purposefully chose this person because we wanted a specific type of ceremony for our wedding. We were in touch over a year before the wedding to discuss a rough plan, and then we got back planning four months out from the wedding to fine tune it. We sent countless emails back and forth making sure, making sure the ceremony was perfect. So, when it came as close to nearly three weeks out from the big day I was pretty upset that she had to cancel. Luckily, we were able to find a replacement, who did an amazing job on the day. My reason for saying, “Don't sweat the small stuff,” is because it's not until you come across as big an issue as I faced that it all puts the smaller details into perspective. My parent's band, for example, broke up the night before their wedding and a friend's photographer got very sick the day before hers. All of these things can be fixed, but it will make you realise that the smaller things you stress about don't actually matter at all. When you don't get the exact flower you want for your bouquet or the bridesmaid dresses aren't the exact shade of pink. You just have to remember that it's not a big deal. I know it's so much easier for me to say this in hindsight but hopefully it might help make you that little bit more relaxed when planning your wedding. On the day the only thing that people will notice is you two and how happy you are. Trust me.
